Note marriage was after all of their children were born, what prompted the event is not clear as they didn't emigrate for another 6 years.

Baptised 20 Apr 1828 at St Lukes Chelsea. Note that the baptism record shows the birth year as 1814 but based upon working back from ages given in the 1841/1851 census and the Empress Eugenie ship's log, a date of 1815 has been used. This date has also been confirmed by the baptism summary log, so it is the baptism entry which is wrong.

Samuel and Harriet emigrated to Australia in 1858 with children John, James, Henry and Elizabeth. They were assisted immigrants on the ship Empress Eugenie which sailed from Liverpool on 17 Jan 1858 and arrived in Melbourne on 3 April 1858. Samuel is listed as a shoemaker, Church of England, able to read and write, as can all of the family apart from Elizabeth who was only 7 yrs old. Henry was 11 yrs old and was able to travel in the same quarters as his parents. James, 17 and John, 20, were required to travel in the adult men's quarters and are listed as bootmakers.

Samuel set up trade as a boot and shoe maker in Errol St Melbourne, living above the shop with his family (note listed in Ballieres Directory as surname Barrowman, at 43 Errol St, the two shops being rented and he living in the 5 roomed two storey house above and behind them).

Samuel rented a shop in Errol St in 1859, now a takeaway. The pharmacy next door was used by his son John for about a year and his son Samuel set up for a while in what is now the bookshop.

The Melbourne Argos recorded on 22 Oct 1858 that Samuel found a female infant abandoned behind the gaol, kept her for a week and then handed her over to the authorities, after which she died of natural causes.

In 1841 census the name recorded was Boroman.
